Westpac Fiji Appoints New Finance Head: A Local Leadership Revolution

Ravikash Chand has been named the new Head of Finance for Westpac Fiji, succeeding Matthew Abbott, who has been instrumental in the bank’s financial leadership. This appointment is a part of a recent trend of increasing local professionals occupying key positions at Fiji’s oldest bank.

In a landmark move in 2021, Shane Smith was appointed as the Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji, becoming the first Fijian to hold this position since the bank’s establishment in 1901. Smith’s appointment is a significant achievement, highlighting Westpac Fiji’s commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening ties with the local community.

With extensive experience in the bank and a thorough understanding of the local market, Smith is well-equipped to guide Westpac Fiji toward sustained growth and innovation. Earlier this year, Dinesh Kumar, another local professional, was appointed as the Head of Retail. Kumar brings over 15 years of experience in the financial sector, with 13 of those years in banking.

“These changes represent Westpac’s dedication to continuity, fostering local leadership, and ensuring we remain leaders in financial excellence in Fiji. We are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for our people and customers,” Smith stated. He emphasized that as Westpac Fiji begins this new chapter, the bank is committed to its mission of providing outstanding banking services and aiding in Fiji’s economic development, with Chand’s appointment reaffirming its focus on leadership, innovation, and community involvement.
