Westpac Appoints New CEO: What’s Next for the Banking Giant?

Anthony Miller has been named the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, effective December, taking over from outgoing CEO Peter King.

Westpac Bank announced Miller’s appointment, highlighting his prior roles leading the Institutional Bank and Business & Wealth divisions since joining the bank in 2020.

Chairman Steven Gregg emphasized Miller’s focus on customers, strong performance history, and his understanding of the Australian market as pivotal factors in his selection. Gregg also noted that Miller’s promotion from within the company will facilitate a seamless transition.

Miller, who previously served as CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia/NZ and has a background with Goldman Sachs, possesses significant experience in investment banking along with a deep understanding of retail banking needs. He aims to build on King’s accomplishments and further unlock Westpac’s growth potential.

Outgoing CEO Peter King, credited for steering Westpac through a transformative period marked by risk management enhancements, bank simplification, and advancements in customer protection and digital services, has expressed his support for Miller and commended his preparedness for the CEO position.
