Anthony Miller has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, effective December, taking over from Peter King.
Westpac Bank announced that Miller joined the organization in 2020 and has previously headed the Institutional Bank and Business & Wealth divisions.
Chairman Steven Gregg highlighted Miller’s customer-centric approach, impressive performance history, and deep understanding of the Australian market as vital factors in his selection. He emphasized that promoting Miller from within will facilitate a smooth transition for the bank.
Miller, who previously served as CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia/NZ and has experience at Goldman Sachs, brings a wealth of knowledge in investment banking and a solid understanding of retail banking requirements. He aims to build on King’s successes and further unlock Westpac’s potential.
Outgoing CEO Peter King, who has guided Westpac through a significant transformation, is recognized for implementing a comprehensive risk management overhaul, streamlining the bank’s operations, and enhancing customer protection and digital offerings. King, who was instrumental in hiring Miller, endorses his successor and commends his preparation for the CEO position.
