Anthony Miller has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of Westpac, starting in December, following the tenure of outgoing CEO Peter King.
In an official announcement, Westpac Bank shared that Miller, who has been with the bank since 2020, has previously headed the Institutional Bank as well as the Business & Wealth divisions.
Chairman Steven Gregg highlighted Miller’s strong customer orientation, impressive track record, and deep understanding of the Australian market as pivotal factors in his selection. He emphasized that promoting Miller from within the organization will facilitate a seamless transition.
Miller comes to this role with significant experience, having previously served as CEO of Deutsche Bank Australia/New Zealand and having worked at Goldman Sachs. His background in investment banking, along with his understanding of retail banking needs, equips him well for his new position.
Miller aims to build upon King’s accomplishments and further unlock Westpac’s potential. Outgoing CEO Peter King, who is recognized for overseeing a substantial transformation of the bank, including major improvements in risk management, simplifying operations, and enhancing customer protection and digital services, has expressed his support for Miller. King, who recruited Miller, commends his readiness for the CEO position.
