Last Saturday, employees from Westpac Fiji and members of various Rotary clubs across the nation joined forces to provide over 300 hampers to families in need, in anticipation of Diwali, the Festival of Light. Since 2020, Westpac has collaborated with Rotary to effectively identify and assist families requiring support within the community.

Shane Smith, CEO of Westpac Fiji, expressed the bank’s commitment to community service, emphasizing the importance of giving back. “This Diwali, we continue our partnership with Rotary Clubs around Fiji to help those in need enjoy a joyous celebration,” he stated.

Each year, Westpac funds the Diwali hampers, while Rotary helps facilitate their delivery, with employees from both organizations actively participating in the distribution. This year’s initiative was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset, which utilized the extensive Rotary Fiji network to reach families nationwide.

By the end of the distribution event, hampers filled with essential food items and grocery supplies were delivered to several locations, including Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, and Labasa, ensuring that families can celebrate Diwali more comfortably.

Neelam Sharma, president of the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset, noted the emotional response from recipients, highlighting their gratitude for receiving support right before the festive preparations begin. She extended her thanks to Westpac for their generous sponsorship, reflecting the positive impact of this partnership on the community.

This initiative not only symbolizes the spirit of giving during the festive season but also showcases the power of collaboration between corporate entities and community organizations to uplift those in need.

Overall, the action taken by Westpac and Rotary serves as a beacon of hope, reminding us of the importance of community solidarity and support, particularly during significant cultural celebrations like Diwali.
