Spread the love

Westpac Fiji employees and Rotary members from various parts of the country came together last Saturday to distribute over 300 hampers to families in need, coinciding with the upcoming Diwali celebrations, known as the Festival of Light. Since 2020, Westpac has partnered with Rotary to assist in identifying families that require support during this festive season.

Shane Smith, the CEO of Westpac Fiji, emphasized the company’s commitment to community engagement and the importance of giving back. He stated, “This Diwali, we have once again partnered with Rotary Clubs around Fiji to support our communities as we’ve done for over four years in helping those in need to enjoy Diwali celebrations.”

Westpac funds the Diwali hampers each year, collaborating with Rotary to ensure that the hampers are distributed efficiently. This year’s distribution was coordinated by the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset, utilizing the Rotary Fiji network to reach families throughout the country.

On the distribution day, the hampers — which contained essential food items and groceries — were handed out across several locations including Suva, Lautoka, Nadi, and Labasa. Neelam Sharma, President of the Rotary Club of Suva Peninsula Sunset, remarked on the emotional responses from recipients who were grateful for the timely support, just before the festive preparations began. She expressed her gratitude to Westpac for their generous sponsorship of the hampers.

This initiative showcases the vital role of community partnerships in uplifting those in need, highlighting a spirit of generosity and unity that characterizes both Diwali and the collaborative efforts of local organizations.

In summary, Westpac Fiji and Rotary clubs have made a significant impact in the community by ensuring that families receive essential supplies in time for the Diwali celebrations, reinforcing the essence of togetherness and kindness during the festival. This act of generosity not only helps ease the burdens faced by families but also fosters a sense of community spirit that resonates during this festive time.
