Police officers in the Western Division have been urged to either meet the demands of their roles or consider resigning. This directive was given by the Divisional Police Commander Western, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakobo Vaisewa, during his address at the end of the fourth quarter divisional parade, which included officers from Rakiraki to Sigatoka.
SSP Vaisewa emphasized the importance of treating every report with seriousness and providing appropriate guidance when necessary. He noted that the public expects a higher level of responsiveness from law enforcement and called on officers to either rise to these expectations or step aside if they are unable to handle the challenges of policing.
The commander also highlighted the need for rigorous adherence to processes and procedures to help reduce complaints. “No report should be taken lightly, and complainants should leave feeling satisfied after receiving proper advice,” SSP Vaisewa stated.
Additionally, he reinforced the Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew’s stance on zero tolerance for officers involved in criminal activities, making it clear that any officer who exploits their position for personal gain through illegal activities will face consequences.
