The Western Division Two team triumphed in a hard-fought match against the Police Mobile Force, securing a 1-0 victory to win the 2024 Fiji Police Inter-Formation Soccer Competition Trophy. The event concluded yesterday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
Throughout the game, both teams struggled to score, resulting in a goalless match that progressed into extra time, heightening the intensity as the prospect of sudden death loomed. The decisive goal came from Sairusi Nalaubu, who seized a moment of distraction among other players to drive the ball into the net, sealing the win for the Western Division.
Nalaubu was also honored with the Golden Boot award for being the tournament’s top scorer. Following the match, team president ASP Riyaz Mohammed expressed his joy and dedicated the victory to the police officers working hard in the Western Division. “This is for those hardworking police officers back home who have been sacrificing while we are here playing, and our mission was to get this trophy into the Western Division,” remarked ASP Mohammed.
The team was awarded the 2024 Inter Formation Trophy along with a $1000 shopping voucher from sponsor Extra Supermarket. With the tournament now concluded, the police team is set to prepare for the upcoming 2024 Sukuna Bowl next month, aiming to compete in rugby, soccer, netball, volleyball, and boxing against the Army.
Meanwhile, the Police Mobile Force received a $500 shopping voucher from Extra Supermarket.
