Weightlifting Fiji has officially commenced its preparations for an exciting 2025 following trials conducted last weekend at Rabuka Gym. These trials, which took place on December 28, 2024, serve as the initial step in the team’s journey toward several important competitions this year, including the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, the World Youth and Juniors Championship in Lima, Peru, and the U23 Championships in Melbourne, Australia.
National coach Henry Elder expressed his contentment with the athletes’ performances during the trials, stating, “We are very happy with how everyone performed over the weekend. The results were positive, and we are excited to continue building from here.”
After the trials, athletes returned to training with lighter sessions on Monday. Coach Elder confirmed that, despite a temporary gym closure, training would persist steadily throughout the week. He indicated that the trials are part of a series, with the next one scheduled for January 19, for which the team is already preparing.
Elder shared that the organization is aiming for success in multiple international events this year, emphasizing, “Our goal is to ensure our athletes are ready for these key competitions, and we’re confident in their potential.” The trials and continued training highlight Weightlifting Fiji’s dedication to building on the achievements of 2024, a year marked by record-breaking performances and historic wins at the Fiji Sports Awards.
Elder also mentioned that the results of the first trials would be made public soon as the team remains laser-focused on refining their strategies for the competitions ahead.
Overall, the commitment and enthusiasm demonstrated by Weightlifting Fiji set a hopeful tone for their aspirations in 2025, reflecting a strong foundation built on past successes and a clear trajectory toward future achievements.
