Weightlifting Fiji has officially commenced its preparations for an exciting 2025 season with recent trials conducted at Rabuka Gym over the weekend. These trials, held on December 28, 2024, signify the initial phase of the team’s training as they gear up for significant competitions this year, which include the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, the World Youth and Juniors Championship in Lima, Peru, and the Under-23 Championships in Melbourne, Australia.

National coach Henry Elder expressed his enthusiasm about the athletes’ performances during the trials, stating, “We are very happy with how everyone performed over the weekend. The results were positive, and we are excited to continue building from here.” Following the trials, the athletes shifted back to training with lighter sessions scheduled for Monday, and despite a brief closure of the gym, Elder assured that training would proceed steadily throughout the week.

Elder announced that these trials are just the beginning, with three more trials planned, the next scheduled for January 19. He also emphasized that Weightlifting Fiji is aiming for a successful year at various international events, expressing confidence in the athletes’ capabilities. “Our goal is to ensure our athletes are ready for these key competitions, and we’re confident in their potential,” he noted.

The recent trials and ongoing training sessions underscore Weightlifting Fiji’s dedication to building on the successes of 2024, a year marked by record achievements and accolades at the Fiji Sports Awards. Elder also mentioned that the results from the trials would soon be publicly shared, as the team remains focused on refining their strategies for the upcoming events.

This proactive approach by Weightlifting Fiji is promising, reflecting their commitment to excellence in the sport and providing great optimism for what lies ahead in 2025.

In summary, Weightlifting Fiji is on a determined path toward success this year, with rigorous training and events lined up, presenting a hopeful outlook for their athletes and the organization as a whole.
