Weightlifting Fiji concluded its competitive season today with the National Championships at the Rabuka Gym in Suva. The event served as a crucial opportunity for athletes to evaluate their abilities and pinpoint areas needing enhancement as they gear up for a demanding 2026 season.

Head coach Henry Elder emphasized the significance of these championships, highlighting notable advancements in the athletes’ lifting performances. He expressed a sense of hope about the team’s potential and the future. Elder stated, “We basically have this as a platform to prepare for next year as we have a lot of upcoming tournaments. From the World Cup to the World Championships, Oceania Championships, the Commonwealth Championship, along with the school’s championship we intend to send our young athletes to.”

The event drew a large crowd of family, friends, and supporters, creating a vibrant atmosphere that showcased community enthusiasm for weightlifting. This strong turnout was encouraging for the athletes, who thrived on the support they received.

Weightlifting Fiji plans to wrap up the year with its final training session on December 31, after which the preparation for the 2026 season will commence on January 2. The combination of dedicated training, community support, and a clear roadmap for upcoming competitions positions the athletes for a promising future in weightlifting.
