Throughout the weekend, several drug-related arrests occurred for unlawful possession and cultivation of illegal substances.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu reported that a 31-year-old man was apprehended in Caubati after police found clear plastic bags containing white crystals, believed to be methamphetamine, along with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.
Additionally, the suspect is under investigation for attempted bribery, as he allegedly offered money to a police officer at the time of his arrest.
Driu emphasized that the ongoing investigation highlights the importance of police efforts to disrupt drug supply and reassured the public that if there are reports of police misconduct, appropriate disciplinary actions will follow, including internal and criminal procedures.
Other arrests related to white substances thought to be methamphetamine took place in Samabula and Sigatoka, with four men detained. Arrests related to marijuana occurred in Korovou, Tailevu, Lautoka, and Sigatoka, while more than 100 marijuana plants were seized in a case of unlawful cultivation in Karoko.
The public is encouraged to report any suspected drug-related activities by contacting Crimestoppers at 919 or 917.
