Throughout the weekend, law enforcement made several drug-related arrests for illegal possession and cultivation of narcotics.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu reported that a 31-year-old man was taken into custody in Caubati after officers found clear plastic bags containing white crystals suspected to be methamphetamine, as well as dried leaves believed to be marijuana.
In addition to drug charges, ACP Driu noted that the suspect is under investigation for bribery, as he allegedly attempted to offer money to a police officer at the time of his arrest.
He emphasized the importance of police commitment to combatting drug supply and warned that any attempt to sabotage these efforts would not be tolerated. ACP Driu assured the public that appropriate disciplinary actions would be enforced if any reports of police misconduct are received, including both internal and criminal proceedings.
Additional arrests for substances suspected to be methamphetamine occurred in Samabula and Sigatoka, resulting in four men being detained.
Arrests related to marijuana took place in Korovou, Tailevu, Lautoka, and Sigatoka. Notably, in Karoko, over 100 marijuana plants were confiscated in a case involving unlawful cultivation.
The public is encouraged to report any suspected drug-related activities by contacting Crimestoppers at 919 or 917.
