Ferlin Marsh, the president of the World Boxing Association (WBA) Oceania, has announced that they are currently reviewing video footage from the recent fight between New Zealand’s John Parker and Fiji’s Alivereti Kauyaca, which took place in Hamilton.
In response to a complaint from Kauyaca’s trainer and manager, Farmaan Ali, Marsh has enlisted the help of four international boxing judges to analyze the fight footage and provide their assessments. Ali has requested a declaration of “no contest” and a rematch, objecting to the split-decision victory awarded to Parker.
Two judges awarded the match to Parker, granting him the WBA Oceania cruiserweight title, while one judge scored it in favor of Kauyaca. Marsh acknowledged receiving Ali’s complaint and stated that WBA Oceania does not tolerate the term “robbed” in relation to its title fights, which is why he asked Ali to provide a copy of the fight for review.
After reviewing the footage himself, Marsh sought additional opinions from the four judges, with one already having submitted their score and the others expected to respond by the end of the week. He emphasized that boxing often leads to disputes, particularly in closely contested fights.
Ali has accused judges Arden Fatu and Joshua Niyka of making a “hometown decision” against Kauyaca, describing the ruling as “totally” biased and stating that many are confused by the outcome. He also questioned the WBA’s choice to appoint these judges for the bout. As of now, Parker’s team has not commented on the matter.
