Residents of Delainavesi and Lami in Fiji are expressing their frustration over persistent water supply issues that have lasted for years. Mosese Koroi, a long-time resident, shared how daily water cuts have significantly impacted their routines, with residents only receiving water between 3 AM and 8 AM. This limited access forces families to wake up early to fill containers for their daily needs.

Koroi pointed out the additional financial burden these shortages impose, explaining that families have to spend money on water tanks, resources that could have been saved with a consistent water supply. Local business owner Natasha Ben echoed these concerns, noting the challenges of managing water supplies while sharing stored water with neighbors.

The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, acknowledged these long-standing challenges faced by communities in Lami and Delainavesi, affirming that the government is working towards sustainable solutions. He highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the construction of the Viria Water Treatment Plant, which aims to enhance daily drinking water capacity.

Other areas, including Tamavua and Namadi, have reported similar prolonged outages, further escalating resident urgency for effective solutions. This collective struggle has put additional pressure on the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF), leading to public criticism regarding their communication and response to the persistent supply issues.

Despite these challenges, there is hope for residents as infrastructure improvements are being prioritized, potentially leading to significant enhancements in water service reliability. This commitment could pave the way for a healthier future where everyone has consistent access to clean water. The resilience of the local community amidst these difficulties is remarkable and underscores the hopeful anticipation for better services ahead.
