The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, emphasized that water scarcity is a critical issue in the country, and the Coalition Government is dedicated to fully addressing it. While speaking in Parliament, Tuisawau highlighted that the government’s commitment extends beyond infrastructure to include challenges posed by climate change and prolonged dry spells.

He informed the Parliament about the various measures the government has implemented to mitigate these issues. Among these actions are water rationing and scheduled water distribution programs designed to support communities in managing water shortages.

The government has also initiated a free water tank scheme, which has been rolled out to several rural and affected areas, and the program remains available to residents. This initiative allows individuals to store water to cope with shortages. Additionally, the construction of temporary cofferdams is being carried out as part of the government’s ongoing and long-term efforts to address water availability challenges.
