The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) is addressing a water supply disruption affecting customers linked to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend. On Friday, increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, caused by rainfall in the catchment area, were reported. WAF indicated that the elevated turbidity led to a buildup of sludge in the plant, which in turn damaged the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. This complication has hindered efforts to return water production to normal levels and supply to those impacted.
“Our technical team is diligently working around the clock to resolve this issue and restore supply as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the disruption, particularly to those who have been without water since yesterday,” said a spokesperson.
WAF’s Chief Operating Officer, Seru Soderberg, expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience during this challenging time.
