Authorities have once again emphasized that throwing water at moving vehicles is illegal, following multiple complaints from drivers since the start of the New Year. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted concerns over a video circulating on social media that showed a bus driver recently affected by this behavior.

“This reckless conduct can lead to accidents, resulting in serious injuries or fatalities. We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water at moving vehicles,” said ACPO Driu. He pointed out that individuals who engage in this behavior may face legal action under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or for negligent acts causing harm under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009. The consequences could be severe, potentially escalating to charges of murder depending on the extent of injuries inflicted on victims.

Driu also stressed that children might not comprehend the serious implications of their actions, emphasizing the role of parents in educating their children about public safety during celebrations.

This renewed focus on safety serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible behavior during festive celebrations. Communities can enjoy their festivities while ensuring the safety of all participants, especially those on the roads.

In summary, the police are making a concerted effort to promote road safety and underscore the dangers associated with reckless behavior, particularly during celebratory events.
