Authorities are urging parents and the community to educate children about the dangers and legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles. This warning follows a string of complaints from drivers, particularly highlighted by a recent incident involving a bus driver featured in a widely shared social media video.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu has emphasized the severity of these actions, stating that they can lead to serious accidents that may result in injuries or fatalities. “Please celebrate responsibly and don’t throw water on moving vehicles,” ACPO Driu cautioned.
He further pointed out that those engaging in such behavior could face legal repercussions under the Minor Offences Act of 1971 or for negligent acts under the Crimes Act of 2009. Depending on the extent of injuries caused, the offense could even escalate to murder charges.
Driu underlined the importance of parental guidance, indicating that children often do not understand the serious consequences of their actions. He also encouraged adults in the community to step up and advise young individuals against this reckless behavior.
The police are actively monitoring these incidents, reinforcing the community’s role in maintaining safety. By looking out for one another, the community can foster a safer environment for everyone.
This call for awareness underscores the importance of education and accountability in preventing dangerous behaviors. It’s a collective effort that relies on both parents and community members to ensure the well-being of all.
