The Water Authority of Fiji is actively addressing a disruption in water supply affecting some customers serviced by the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend. Since Friday, the plant has encountered higher than normal turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, a situation brought on by rainfall in the area.

This increased turbidity has resulted in a build-up of sludge within the plant, leading to a malfunction in the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. The breakdown has hindered the authority’s efforts to restore water production to typical levels and affect supply to the impacted customers.

WAF’s technical team is working diligently around the clock to resolve the problem and resume water supply as quickly as possible. WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding during this challenging situation.
