Water Supply Disruption in Fiji: What’s Causing the Delay?

The Water Authority of Fiji is addressing a water supply disruption affecting some customers linked to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant this weekend. The issue arose on Friday when the plant encountered high turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, attributed to recent rainfall in the catchment area.

This elevated turbidity led to increased sludge accumulation in the plant, which in turn impacted the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. As a result, there has been a delay in restoring water production to normal levels and supplying water to the impacted areas.

“Our technical team is working around the clock to resolve this issue and restore supply as swiftly as possible. We sincerely apologize for the disruption, particularly for those who have been without water since yesterday,” a WAF spokesperson stated.

WAF Chief Operating Officer Seru Soderberg expressed gratitude to the community for their understanding and patience as the team works to resolve the situation.
