Water Supply Crisis: How Heavy Rain Impacted Central Division

Heavy rainfall led to increased turbidity levels in the Waimanu River, disrupting the water supply for several residents in the Central Division over the weekend. The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) provided an update indicating that teams were actively working to address the water supply issues stemming from the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant.

WAF explained that the elevated turbidity resulted in a significant buildup of sludge within the plant, which affected the gearbox of one of the two clarifiers. This malfunction has hindered their efforts to restore water production to standard levels, impacting the supply to those in need.

The authority noted that their technical team was diligently working on the situation and extended their apologies to customers who have experienced water shortages since Saturday.
