Water Supply Alert: Prepare for Disruptions Amid Heavy Rain!

Residents in Fiji’s Central and Eastern Division are advised to prepare for potential water disruptions due to heavy rainfall affecting water supply systems, according to the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF). The authority has reported that ongoing adverse weather conditions are anticipated.

In light of these developments, WAF recommends that residents store enough water to last at least two to three days. Heavy rains can negatively influence water supply operations by causing blockages at water intakes and leading to decreased reservoir levels. Additionally, the rainfall increases turbidity in the water as soil and sediment are washed into raw water sources, compounded by floodwaters.

WAF is actively monitoring the situation and will take necessary precautions to minimize the impact on residents. Their teams are prepared to address any faults related to blocked intakes and flooding; however, they will only proceed with repairs when it is safe to do so. The authority encourages customers to conserve water and limit usage to essential needs. It is also advised to fill containers and bathtubs with clean water for emergency use prior to severe weather conditions.

Furthermore, WAF has urged residents to stay informed with the latest updates and to prepare emergency kits that include bottled water and other essential supplies.
