The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has issued a warning to customers in areas typically affected by water quality issues from the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant, advising them to brace for potential disruptions in their water supply. This announcement comes amid ongoing heavy rainfall, which is expected to adversely impact water quality in source streams, thereby complicating treatment processes.
The heavy rains could lead to a decrease in production capacity at the Tamavua water treatment facility. Several areas have been identified as likely to experience disruptions, including Mika Drue Place and Pathik Crescent, Mead Road—including Volavola Road, Evetts Place, and Top Shop Road—elevated regions along Lakha Singh Road and Tacirua Road, as well as more remote locations like Kalekana Settlement Road and Muaivuso Village.
WAF teams are actively monitoring the situation and are committed to working tirelessly to manage production levels, aiming to minimize the impact on water supply for affected residents.
This proactive communication from WAF emphasizes the importance of preparedness in the face of unpredictable weather events. Communities are encouraged to have reserve water supplies and stay tuned for further updates to navigate any challenges that may arise. The determination of WAF staff to tackle these difficulties should inspire confidence in the community during these trying times.
