Water Splashing Warning: Parents, Take Action!

Police are urging parents to educate their children about the dangers and legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles. This advice follows a rise in concerns from motorists that began to surface after the New Year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted a recent incident captured in a social media video, where a bus driver was reportedly a victim of this dangerous behavior. He stressed that such actions could result in serious accidents, causing injuries or even fatalities.

“Please celebrate responsibly and avoid throwing water on moving vehicles,” Driu encouraged. He noted that individuals found engaging in this behavior could face investigation under the Minor Offences Act 1971 or the Crimes Act 2009. Furthermore, depending on the severity of any injuries inflicted, the consequences could escalate up to a murder charge.

Driu pointed out that many children may not comprehend the seriousness of their actions, emphasizing the crucial role that parents play in imparting this knowledge. He also encouraged community members, including adults, to talk to children who might be involved in such activities to help curb this behavior.

The police are committed to monitoring these events closely, advocating for community vigilance to ensure everyone’s safety.

In summary, the police’s message is clear: both parents and community members have a responsibility to discourage dangerous behaviors that could lead to serious legal consequences and harm. By fostering awareness and proactive communication, we can work together to ensure safety on the roads. This call to action represents an opportunity for communities to come together, reinforcing shared values of responsibility and safety for all.
