Police are urging parents to educate their children about the dangers and legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles. This warning follows reports from several motorists expressing concerns since the New Year about this hazardous behavior.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted a recent video circulating on social media, which showcases a bus driver as the latest target of such antics. He emphasized that these actions can lead to serious accidents, resulting in injuries or even fatalities. “Please celebrate responsibly and don’t throw water on moving vehicles,” urged ACP Driu.
The police have pointed out that individuals engaging in this behavior could face legal consequences under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or under the Negligent Acts Causing Harm section of the Crimes Act 2009. Depending on the severity of the injuries inflicted, charges could escalate to even more serious offenses.
Moreover, ACP Driu noted that children often do not grasp the potential consequences of their actions, making it crucial for parents to communicate these risks. He encouraged adults within communities to also intervene when they witness such actions by children, emphasizing a collective responsibility towards safety.
The police will remain vigilant, monitoring such incidents to ensure community safety. The message is clear: it’s essential to look out for one another and maintain a safe environment for all.
This awareness campaign is a positive step towards promoting community safety and responsibility, particularly in creating a safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians during festive celebrations.
