Authorities have once again reminded the public that throwing water on moving vehicles constitutes a legal offense. This warning comes in response to rising concerns voiced by some motorists since the start of the New Year. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted a recent incident involving a bus driver who became a victim of this reckless behavior, which was captured in a video that circulated on social media.
ACPO Driu stressed the dangers associated with such actions, noting that they can lead to serious accidents resulting in injury or even fatality. He urged the public to celebrate safely, emphasizing the need to refrain from splashing water on vehicles. Individuals engaging in this behavior could face investigations under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971, or for negligent actions under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009. The severity of the penalties can escalate to serious charges, including murder, depending on the extent of injuries inflicted on victims.
Driu also pointed out that children often do not recognize the potential harm their actions could cause, making it crucial for parents to educate them on this matter.
In light of this issue, it is essential for communities to engage in responsible celebration practices that prioritize safety and well-being. By fostering awareness and understanding, we can minimize risks and ensure that festivities remain joyful and injury-free.
This situation serves as a reminder that while celebrations are a time of joy, they must be approached with mindfulness to protect all members of the community.
