Authorities have once again stressed the legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles, urging the public to celebrate responsibly. This message comes in light of recent concerns raised by motorists, particularly following the New Year festivities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted a disturbing trend, noting a video on social media that depicts a bus driver as one of the latest victims of this reckless behavior. He emphasized that throwing water at moving vehicles poses serious risks, potentially leading to accidents that could result in injuries or fatalities. Driu’s message is clear: “Please celebrate responsibly and don’t throw water on moving vehicles.”

Under the law, individuals participating in this dangerous activity could face legal repercussions, including investigations under the Minor Offences Act 1971 and the Crimes Act 2009. Driu pointed out that depending on the severity of the incidents caused, charges could escalate to serious offenses, including murder.

He also addressed the issue of children engaging in these activities, urging parents to educate them about the potential dangers and consequences of their actions.

This important reminder serves as both a warning and a call to foster safer celebrations in the future, reinforcing the responsibility that comes with public festivities.

It is hoped that this renewed emphasis on safety will encourage a more responsible approach to celebrations, preventing unnecessary accidents and promoting a safer community for all.
