Police are urging parents to educate their children about the dangers and legal ramifications of splashing water on moving vehicles. This warning comes after multiple reports from concerned motorists following New Year’s celebrations.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu mentioned a concerning video circulating on social media showing a bus driver affected by this reckless behavior. He emphasized the potential consequences of such actions, stating, “These acts can lead to accidents, resulting in injuries or even fatalities. We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water on moving vehicles.”

The law is clear on this matter, as individuals caught engaging in such behavior could face prosecution under Section 15 of the Minor Offences Act 1971 or the Negligent Acts Causing Harm under Section 269 of the Crimes Act 2009. Depending on the severity of any resulting injuries, the penalties could even escalate to charges of murder.

ACPO Driu stressed the importance of parental guidance, highlighting that children may not fully grasp the seriousness of their actions. He called on adults within communities to also engage with young people to discourage this dangerous behavior.

He reassured the community that police officers will be vigilant and continue to monitor incidents related to this issue. “Let’s work together to ensure everyone’s safety by looking out for one another,” he concluded.

In summary, the police initiative aims to raise awareness about a serious issue affecting public safety during festive celebrations. By fostering dialogue between parents and children, as well as promoting community involvement, there is hope for a safer environment for all. Ultimately, this could lead to more responsible celebration practices, ensuring everyone can enjoy festivities without risking harm.
