The Police M-PAiSA Task Force is intensifying efforts to address the rising concerns regarding scams targeting the M-PAiSA platform. Acting Commissioner of Police, Juki Fong Chew, has issued a stern warning to the public, especially parents and guardians, urging them to remain vigilant while withdrawing the recently disbursed Back to School Assistance funds of $200 from the Government.

Fong Chew emphasized the critical importance of not allowing children or unaccompanied individuals to handle these financial transactions to mitigate the risk of potential fraud. “You don’t know who is at the sidelines exploring the opportunity to steal information or money,” he cautioned, underlining that adults must take responsibility for these tasks to protect their families’ financial security.

The Acting Commissioner has also highlighted an increase in sophisticated scams that often leverage digital communication platforms, including text messages, WhatsApp, Viber, and Facebook. Scammers frequently exploit the busy financial period surrounding back-to-school assistance by making unsolicited requests for money or sharing enticing offers that can lead to significant losses if individuals are not cautious.

To combat these threats, the police are actively promoting community awareness and education surrounding safe financial practices. By fostering discussions about common scams and encouraging families to be skeptical of unsolicited requests, they aim to enhance resilience against fraud.

The ongoing campaign serves as a timely reminder for families to prioritize vigilance and exercise safe financial behaviors during this crucial back-to-school season. By remaining informed and proactive, families and the wider community can better safeguard themselves against potential scams, ultimately contributing to a safer environment for all.

In summary, the collective effort to raise awareness about financial safety not only aims to protect individuals but also strengthens community ties, fostering a supportive atmosphere where families can thrive without the fear of exploitation.
