Health workers in the Northern Division have received a significant boost with the recent delivery of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene supplies to medical facilities in Bua and Macuata. A team from the Health Ministry’s headquarters traveled to the region to distribute essential equipment, including wheelie bins, pedal bins, and specialized waste-segregation containers.

These new items are designed to assist clinics and health centers in managing medical waste more effectively, thereby ensuring the safety of staff, patients, and surrounding communities. The Assistant Minister for Health, Penioni Ravunawa, who is currently visiting the North, engaged with the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) team during the handover ceremony.

Ravunawa emphasized the importance of enhancing sanitation in frontline healthcare facilities as a key strategy to prevent contamination and mitigate the risk of disease outbreaks. He noted that many subdivisions have already received training to establish proper healthcare waste management plans, with several initiatives officially launched earlier this year.

The introduction of these new supplies is poised to enhance the safety of daily operations for health staff, while also fostering cleaner and healthier environments for the communities that depend on these vital services. This initiative marks a crucial step toward improving healthcare standards in the Northern Division, ultimately benefiting both health workers and the populations they serve.
