Labasa midfielder Christopher Wasasala has been celebrated as a hero by fans following his pivotal role in securing his team’s victory in the inter-district championship last Saturday. His decisive kick helped the Babasiga Lions triumph over Navua, winning 5-3 in a penalty shootout held at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
As the team paraded through town, fans loudly chanted Wasasala’s name. He expressed his determination to ensure the Babasiga Lions would clinch the championship as he prepared for the penalty shootout, stating, “I told the boys that we will win the championship, I was 110 per cent that I will go and give a win for Labasa.”
Wasasala acknowledged the significant impact of the fans’ support, calling their presence a source of motivation. “I would like to thank them for coming out in numbers to support the boys; they have given us a good celebration,” he said.
He added that victories like this one serve as encouragement for his teammates to excel in future larger tournaments. “The win last Saturday was a memorable victory; we dedicate it to our supporters and families.”
