The TEMC Warriors men’s rugby team achieved a thrilling victory in the men’s elimination rounds of the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s, overcoming the defending champions, DXC Army Green, with a score of 19-14 at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, yesterday. This hard-fought match was marked by intense competition, including two extra-time sessions where both teams showcased their determination and resilience.

Team coach David Dakuitoga expressed immense pride following the victory, stating that defeating the defending champions was a significant achievement for the Warriors. “Defending champions is not a name tag; they are preparing hard to take it home again. I think it’s some supernatural stuff happening, a divine intervention happening in there that we cannot control,” he remarked, highlighting the emotional rollercoaster experienced during the extra time.

As the team moves forward in the tournament, Dakuitoga emphasized the importance of focusing on fundamentals. “We’ll stick back to basics. There’s some really easy way to do things, we worked a bit harder to actually get the win. If we would have been smarter in our basics in the first place, I think it would have been an easier effort,” he explained. The coach aims to strengthen their defense and maintain the structures they’ve developed as they compete in upcoming matches.

Additionally, the TEMC Warriors also recorded a strong performance earlier in the day, defeating the Kavala Bay Babas 19-5, demonstrating their growing capabilities on the field.

This remarkable win not only reflects the Warriors’ tenacity but also sets a hopeful tone for the rest of the tournament, where their commitment and improvement could lead to even greater achievements. Fans of the team are encouraged to remain optimistic as they look to lessons learned from past matches to enhance their performance moving forward. The spirit of teamwork and dedication exhibited by the Warriors serves as an inspiring feature of Fijian rugby.
