The Ministry of Education has recognized that poor school infrastructure significantly hampers the ability of schools to comply with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) standards. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro highlighted the concerning case of Nabua Primary School, where students are exposed to unsafe conditions.

Mr. Radrodro stated that initial reports about the Nabua school indicated several issues stemming from a building project initiated by a previous administration that remains unfinished. The Minister emphasized that the current management should seek assistance from the government through the established Ministry of Education processes to complete the building.

At Nabua Primary School, many classrooms suffer from serious safety issues, including rusted roofs and windows that lack blades, posing a risk that students could exit through them.

The Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Agni Deo Singh, has acknowledged the OHS concerns and confirmed that a team inspected the school on November 4. A report was expected to be published the following day, but the Ministry has yet to respond despite multiple inquiries for updates on the report.

This situation highlights the urgent need for attention to school infrastructure to ensure the safety and well-being of students across the region. By addressing these issues, there is hope for improved learning conditions that will foster a safer educational environment. With the cooperation of government bodies and schools, solutions can be developed to enhance infrastructure and comply with OHS requirements effectively.
