Etonia Taivoce, the winning manager, dedicated the 31st R.C Manubhai victory to all officers of the Fiji Corrections Service after their team, the Wardens, claimed victory over BLK Lavidi Brothers with a score of 10-5 in the cup final held at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on Saturday.
“It was a tough match,” Taivoce remarked, expressing gratitude for the strength they were provided to secure the win. He emphasized the importance of staying focused and working as a team, particularly during halftime discussions.
Taivoce praised the remarkable efforts displayed by his younger players, highlighting their character in both attack and defense. He dedicated the win not only to his team but also to their families, acknowledging the personal stakes involved.
The team will take a short one-week break before starting preparations for upcoming tournaments, specifically the Labasa sevens tournament scheduled for next year. In addition to the trophy, the Wardens received a prize of $5000, while the Lavidi Brothers earned $3000 for their efforts.
Halfback Netava Koroisau, who played a crucial role in the victory by scoring a decisive late try during extra time, reflected on the pressure of expectations leading into the final. He saw the win as a fitting holiday gift for their colleagues. “I will go back to work and continue training,” Koroisau shared, emphasizing the importance of family support throughout their tournament journey.
This victory not only represents a significant achievement for the team but also illustrates the dedication and teamwork present within the Fiji Corrections Service community. Looking ahead, the team is hopeful as they prepare to face new challenges in future competitions.
