“It was a tough match,” Taivoce remarked, acknowledging the challenges posed by their opponents. He credited their success to a collective effort and divine support, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and teamwork during halftime.
Taivoce also praised his young players for demonstrating exceptional character in both offensive and defensive plays throughout the match. He dedicated the win not only to his team but also to their families, highlighting their support as a pivotal element of their performance.
Looking ahead, Taivoce shared that the team would take a one-week break before gearing up for future competitions, specifically preparing for the Labasa sevens tournament next year. The Wardens celebrated their victory with a $5,000 prize, while the Lavidi Brothers received $3,000 for their efforts.
Halfback Netava Koroisau, a key player in the final, recognized the high expectations placed on the team. He referred to the win as a special holiday gift for their colleagues back at the Fiji Corrections Service and expressed appreciation for the continuous support from their families during the tournament. Koroisau’s decisive try in extra time clinched the victory for the Wardens after a tie at 5-5 at full time. He also noted his commitment to ongoing training, especially after making his debut for the national sevens team at the 2023 Dubai Sevens.
This victory not only marks a significant achievement for the Wardens but also serves as a reminder of the strength of community and teamwork, which can lead to success in various endeavors.
