Waqabaca Takes the Helm: Fiji Development Bank’s New CEO Announcement

Filimone Waqabaca, the current Fijian ambassador to Japan, has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of the Fiji Development Bank (FDB), with his tenure commencing on January 15, 2025. The appointment comes after the bank sought recruitment services from KPMG to fill this crucial role.

The FDB expressed confidence in Mr. Waqabaca’s capabilities, highlighting his extensive experience and knowledge in the financial and banking regulatory sectors in Fiji. Prior to his ambassadorial role, Mr. Waqabaca served as Fiji’s High Commissioner to New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Management from the University of the South Pacific (1989) and a Master of Science in International Banking & Financial Studies from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom (1997).

His appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives and strong leadership to the FDB, potentially enhancing the bank’s mission to support Fiji’s economic development.

This new role for Mr. Waqabaca signals a promising future for the bank, as his leadership could lead to innovative financial solutions and improved services for the people of Fiji.
