The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has announced the release of young center Waqa Nalaga, also known as Epeli Waqaicece, who is just 21 years old. Nalaga joined the Drua last year after showcasing his talents with the Fiji Under-20 team and previously playing in New Zealand.
Waqa is the son of former Flying Fijians winger Kavekini Nalaga and the sibling of former national representative Napolioni Nalaga. His potential was recognized as he was one of four centers selected for the upcoming 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season.
In a brief statement, the Drua confirmed that they have followed the proper procedures in releasing Nalaga, who hails from Namatakula village in Nadroga. The club indicated that they would not provide further comments regarding this situation.
While the departure of a young talent can be disappointing for fans, it also presents an opportunity for Waqa Nalaga to explore new avenues in his rugby career, potentially leading to a fresh start that could elevate his skills further. The sports community often sees such changes as a chance for growth and new possibilities, both for the player and the teams involved.
Fans and supporters remain hopeful that Nalaga will continue to develop and contribute significantly to the sport in the future.
