Wallabies Set to Field Strong Lineup Against Wales in Melbourne

Winger Filipo Daugunu and hard-hitting Rob Valetini are set to start for the Wallabies in the second Test against Wales this Saturday in Melbourne.

Daugunu will take the position on the left wing, while Valetini will play as the blindside flanker.

Additionally, Waratahs’ Number 8 Langi Gleeson, another Fijian, has been included in the Match Day 23 and will be among the reserves.

Prop James Slipper will assume the captaincy role.

Slipper takes over as captain due to an injury that ruled out backrower Liam Wright.

This marks the 15th time the 35-year-old Slipper has captained Australia, recently setting the record for most caps by a front-rower.

In Wright’s absence, Slipper’s Brumbies teammate Charlie Cale will make his debut start at number eight.

Cale was one of seven debutants in last week’s victory, and his inclusion moves Valetini to the blindside flanker position, mirroring their arrangement at the Brumbies.

Coach Joe Schmidt has made only one change to the starting lineup but has adjusted the bench significantly, including potential debutant Josh Nasser.

Nasser, son of former Wallaby Brendan Nasser, will join Isaac Kailea and Allan Alaalatoa as front-row replacements.

Gleeson is named for his first Wallabies appearance in 2024, alongside Angus Blyth.

Western Force duo Nic White and Ben Donaldson, along with Dylan Pietsch, complete the changes, offering an experienced combo off the bench.

The Wallabies will don their First Nations jersey in recognition of NAIDOC week. The match kicks off at 9:45 PM.

Wallabies (1-15): James Slipper (C), Matt Faessler, Taniela Tupou, Jeremy Williams, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight, Charlie Cale, Jake Gordon, Noah Lolesio, Filipo Dauguni, Hunter Paisami, Josh Flook, Andrew Kellaway, Tom Wright.

Reserves: Josh Nasser, Isaac Kailea, Allan Alaalatoa, Angus Blyth, Langi Gleeson, Nic White, Ben Donaldson, Dylan Pietsch.
