More than a hundred participants gathered at Albert Park on Saturday to take part in the WOWS Kids Foundation’s Fun Walk, marking the 2025 International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD). The founder of WOWS Kids, Sina Kami, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all attendees, sharing a poignant message that reflects the foundation’s mission and its origins, inspired by her late daughter’s battle with cancer.

Ms. Kami recalled the struggle her daughter faced after being diagnosed with cancer in 2008, when she was informed that it had progressed to her lungs. During her treatment, the young girl found solace in music, writing a song that began with the lyrics, “The storm won’t last too long. Walk on, walk strong.” This message of resilience and hope serves as a cornerstone of the WOWS Kids Foundation’s motto.

At the event, Ms. Kami highlighted the challenges faced by families dealing with childhood cancer, noting that the foundation currently supports 68 children, of whom 20 are receiving palliative care. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about childhood cancer and the work being done alongside the Fiji Cancer Society.

Member of Parliament Lynda Tabuya also attended the event, urging community members to support the foundation’s efforts in aiding children and families affected by cancer. The gathering exemplified community spirit and unity in raising awareness and support for such a critical issue.

The Fund Walk serves not only as a commemoration of International Childhood Cancer Day but also as a means to foster resilience and compassion among families facing these challenging circumstances. It highlights the importance of community involvement in supporting children battling cancer and underscores the ongoing commitment of WOWS Kids Fiji to provide necessary resources and care.

Overall, this event illustrates that through collective action, meaningful change can be achieved in the fight against childhood cancer, offering hope to families facing adversity.
