The Minister for Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, is preparing to receive the audit report concerning the investigation into Walesi Pte Limited within this week. This announcement was made during his visit to Labasa, where he addressed mounting concerns related to the state-owned digital television platform.

Initiated last year, the investigation focuses on claims of excessive spending and operational irregularities within Walesi. Minister Kamikamica acknowledged these concerns and indicated readiness to report any findings to the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption if necessary.

The inquiry was established to assess whether proper procedures were adhered to in the platform’s financial management, particularly regarding the allocation of funds, procurement practices, and vendor selection since Walesi’s inception in 2015. During a recent parliamentary session, it was revealed that approximately $125 million had been spent on establishing Walesi under the previous administration.

The forthcoming auditor-general’s report is anticipated to shed light on the legitimacy and management of these expenditures, potentially addressing public concerns about transparency in the operations of Walesi.

This inquiry represents a proactive step towards ensuring accountability and transparency in government spending, which is vital for restoring public trust. As the report unfolds, it stands to provide important insights and may support the government in implementing necessary reforms to enhance the efficiency and integrity of state-operated enterprises.
