“Walesi Investigation Update: Report Ready Next Month”

Investigations into Walesi will conclude next month with reports being provided to Cabinet for approval, according to Trade and Communications Minister Manoa Kamikamica.

Mr. Kamikamica indicated that the investigation, which looked into fund allocation, the tender process, vendor selection, and procurement methods during Walesi’s establishment in 2015, started last year but faced delays due to the postponement of financial reports.

“The Walesi investigations were driven by the Ministry of Trade,” he stated.

“Due to the technical nature of the business, we had to prepare both a technical report and a financial report. That’s likely why it took longer than usual.”

The minister believes the Auditor-General is heading the financial aspect of the investigation.

“Everything is progressing well, and the investigations will be concluded next month. I will present the findings to the Cabinet and seek approval to update Parliament, as the issue has been raised in Parliament.

“If there are any investigations required by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption, they will occur at that point.”
