The Fiji Bitter Wairiki Sevens tournament is poised to introduce innovative changes for this year’s event, aimed at enhancing player development across the islands. The tournament was officially launched during a gathering at the headquarters of Paradise Beverages Fiji Ltd in Suva.

A significant development in this year’s Wairiki Sevens format is the integration of under-15 to U18 categories, which excludes Netball and Volleyball. This initiative is part of a comprehensive strategy to strengthen grassroots player development in the region. Organizers anticipate participation from 32 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams, indicating a robust turnout.

Mark Spencer, the General Manager of Paradise Beverages, highlighted the value of their enduring 17-year partnership, which has contributed significantly to the success of the tournaments. The Nacula Yasawa 7s will unfold at Churchill Park in Lautoka from December 6-7, while the Wairiki 7s is slated for December 11-14 at the Wairiki grounds in Taveuni.

This tournament not only showcases emerging talent but also reinforces the importance of community involvement and support for youth sports, promising an exciting opportunity for young athletes to shine. The focus on youth categories ensures that the future of rugby in Fiji remains bright, potentially leading to more skilled players representing the nation on larger stages.
