Parents and youth leaders in Wainiyabia, Serua, are making a concerted effort to encourage young people to take an active role in maintaining the cleanliness of their community. Miriam Rounds, a community parent and guardian, emphasized the crucial role that youth play in protecting the environment and urged them to embrace this responsibility, which will ultimately fall on their generation.

During a recent gathering with local youths, Rounds highlighted the importance of waste management for the overall health and well-being of the community. “We have gathered today to encourage the youths to keep our environments clean. I urge you all to participate in maintaining the cleanliness of our community,” she stated.

Additionally, Roella Browns, a youth representative, called for residents to be vigilant about waste disposal in public spaces, particularly in popular picnic areas. She declared, “As a concerned youth, I have the right to report littering and to remind the public to be mindful of their rubbish for a clean and safe environment.”

The community leaders believe that by fostering an understanding of proper waste management and environmental stewardship among young people, they can effectively protect the village and mitigate the impacts of climate change. This initiative not only aims to enhance local health standards but also empowers the youth to take ownership of their environment, with hopes of creating a cleaner, healthier future for their community.
