The 2025 Flame Tree Waimanu 7s tournament is set to take a significant step forward by relocating to the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva for the first time, a change from its traditional venue at the Sawani Primary School grounds. This move comes thanks to the support of the naming rights sponsor, Flame Tree Developments (Fiji) Limited, which played a crucial role in securing the stadium for the prestigious event.
At a recent presentation, Flame Tree’s director, Glenn Wakeham, contributed $44,540 to the tournament’s organizers, highlighting the importance of community development and progress. “When I see development in villages, the vanua and the youths, it’s rewarding for me,” Wakeham commented, reflecting on the positive impact of such events in local communities. He conveyed his appreciation for the hard work of the tournament committee, particularly in transitioning the event to the capital city.
Tournament director Alipate Navuso noted that the decision to hold the Waimanu 7s in Suva was influenced by the tournament’s growth over the years. He expressed his gratitude towards Flame Tree for their support, which has been instrumental in facilitating this exciting new chapter for the tournament.
The Waimanu 7s is scheduled to take place this Friday and will conclude on Saturday, promising to deliver thrilling rugby action while fostering community spirit and engagement. This year’s event not only showcases sporting talent but also emphasizes the importance of uplifting local communities through sport. The change in venue reflects a commitment to growth and opportunity, setting the stage for an exciting tournament.
