The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) will soon welcome a new chief executive officer as Dr. Amit Chanan has decided not to renew his contract, which is set to expire in March 2025. Dr. Chanan has informed the WAF Board of his intent to pursue new challenges.
WAF Chairman Ratu Savenaca Seniloli acknowledged Dr. Chanan’s considerable achievements during his tenure, including the successful completion of the Viria Water Treatment Plant project. This undertaking is recognized as one of the largest water infrastructure projects in the South Pacific. Moreover, Dr. Chanan has been a key player in developing the Water Sector 2050 Strategy, an ambitious initiative that outlines an investment plan of $8.5 billion aimed at ensuring sustainable water and sanitation services for all Fijians over the next 30 years.
The board respects Dr. Chanan’s decision, understanding that change in leadership can present opportunities for innovation and fresh perspectives within the organization. This transition not only reflects Dr. Chanan’s significant contributions but also positions WAF for continued evolution in addressing Fiji’s water and sanitation challenges.
This shift could pave the way for new leadership to introduce innovative strategies that further enhance water services across Fiji, ensuring the well-being of the community for generations to come. The ongoing commitment to sustainable water and sanitation development is crucial for the social and environmental health of Fiji, ultimately fostering a resilient future for its citizens.
