The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) will soon appoint a new chief executive officer as Dr. Amit Chanan concludes his three-year tenure with the organization. Dr. Chanan has officially notified the WAF Board of his decision not to seek an extension when his contract expires in March 2025.

WAF Chairman, Ratu Savenaca Seniloli, acknowledged Dr. Chanan’s significant contributions during his time in leadership but respected his choice to pursue new opportunities. Under Dr. Chanan’s direction, the WAF successfully completed the Viria Water Treatment Plant, a major water infrastructure achievement for the South Pacific region. Furthermore, he played a crucial role in developing the Water Sector 2050 Strategy, which lays out an ambitious $8.5 billion investment plan aimed at ensuring sustainable and resilient water and sanitation services for the people of Fiji over the next thirty years.

As Dr. Chanan prepares to step away from his role, this transition represents not only a change in leadership but also an opportunity for the WAF to continue evolving and addressing Fiji’s water and sanitation challenges with fresh perspectives and new ideas.

This development is hopeful for the future, as the new leadership may bring innovative approaches to further enhance water services in Fiji, ensuring the well-being of the community for decades to come.
