Vusu Raiders: From Struggles to Success in Rugby League!

Ereqe Batibasaga, the captain of the Vusu Raiders, credits the team’s recent success to significant changes in their game approach. The Raiders recently held an awards ceremony at the Vineyard Palace Restaurant in Suva, recognizing their outstanding players and celebrating their achievements in various rugby league competitions across Fiji.

The Raiders concluded their season on a high note, securing victories in the Vodafone Cup, the Eastern State competition, and the Fijian Cup nines. According to Batibasaga, the team experienced a substantial transformation, with their recent accolades representing a notable improvement compared to previous years.

He emphasized that the adjustments began during training, focusing on addressing weaknesses identified in the past, particularly in areas such as discipline and the players’ commitment to practice. Batibasaga noted that improvements in fitness levels were also pivotal to the team’s impressive performance over the past year.

Representatives from several villages along the Coral Coast in the Western Division make up the Vusu Raiders. The team claimed the Eastern State championship by defeating Navy Albatross with a score of 40-22 on August 17. They also won the Fiji National Rugby League Vodafone Cup Championship against Navy Albatross, finishing 20-10 on September 28. Their final triumph over Navy Albatross in the Fijian Cup nines at Lawaqa Park ended with a score of 19-4.

The Vusu Raiders’ achievements not only mark a significant milestone for the team but also highlight the power of dedication and strategic changes. This success story can serve as an inspiration for other teams looking to improve their performance through teamwork and discipline.
