“Never lose hope, anything is possible if we work as a team.” This inspiring message from Ronal Kumar, coach of Vunimono High School’s under-18 soccer team, encapsulates the spirit of resilience and teamwork following their emphatic 7-1 victory over Suva Sangam Secondary School in the Fiji Southern Secondary Schools Futsal competition. This decisive win not only showcased their skills but also secured their place in next week’s semi-finals.

Reflecting on his team’s performance, Kumar expressed pride, particularly after leading 4-0 at halftime. The squad boasts several notable players, including Avishaan Chand from Rewa U19 and Rishal Shankar, both of whom are recognized national representatives. Additionally, Kumar highlighted that some of these players are also part of the Fiji U17 squad gearing up for the World Cup.

Last year, Vunimono reached the semi-finals but fell short. This year, with a clear aim to lift the U18 trophy, Kumar noted, “This is the second time we’ve reached this far; our goal is to win the final and bring the trophy back to Vunimono.” He emphasized the importance of not giving up, reinforcing that amidst the competition, understanding that only one team emerges victorious is crucial.

As the focus shifts towards the semi-finals, Vunimono High School’s determination is palpable, and their journey serves as a testament to the power of teamwork and perseverance in sports.

This article highlights the dedication of high school athletes, and the community support surrounding their efforts promises to foster greater achievements in the future. The optimistic outlook for Vunimono High School reflects a hopeful narrative for young athletes striving for excellence.
