Former Fiji 7s representative Senivalati Vunibola has expressed strong support for Osea Kolinisau in his role as head coach of the Fiji Airways men’s 7s team. Vunibola, who played alongside Kolinisau over a decade ago and was notable for his performance in the 2011 Gold Coast Sevens, believes that only a seasoned player could effectively lead the team. His remarks came during a one-day invitational sevens tournament named in his honor, held in Nakorosule, Naitasiri.

Vunibola highlighted the unique understanding a former player has of aspects like defense and attack, which he considers crucial for coaching the Fiji team. He commended Kolinisau for his ability to engage with players positively, differentiating him from other coaches who might discourage their teams. Since Kolinisau’s appointment as head coach last year, the Fiji team has performed impressively in the 2024/2025 HSBC SVNS World Series, notably winning the Dubai tournament and securing third place in Cape Town. Vunibola is optimistic about the team’s ongoing progress under Kolinisau’s leadership.

As the national side prepares for the upcoming McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s tournament, the team looks forward to the Perth Sevens from January 24-26, with significant opportunities on the horizon as they lead the World SVNS Series standings.

The dedication and unity among the players reflect a hopeful environment as they strive for success on international stages. This commitment not only positions them well for the upcoming tournaments but also serves as an inspiration for young athletes aspiring to emulate their journey.
